Hi guys! Today i’m back with a really fun DIY that is perfect for the upcoming summer season. Lately, i’ve been seeing these hats EVERYWHERE for super expensive price tags. While they’re incredibly cute, I truly just couldn’t bring myself to spend over $50 on a hat. #cheap
Trying to ball on a budget, I decided to DIY my own hat. It turned out that it was SUPER easy to make (promise) and the process takes under 30 minutes in total. Also, all of the supplies needed to make it totaled at around $15. So cheap, right? I know i’m going to be wearing this beauty all summer long to keep the sun out of my eyes when i’m baking on the beach. Please let me know if you decide to make it yourself! Can’t wait to see what you guys create. Xo.
Grab your hat and trace the words with your disappearing ink pen. Feel free to trace out a different phrase. I’ve seen tons of cute other ones such as: out of office, sick day, beach please, beach sleep repeat, etc. Come up with your own!
When I wrote the words, I traced it very lightly so that I could fix the letters if I didn’t like how they looked.
Once I traced out the entire phrase around the hat, I started gluing on my sequin trim.
Outline a letter at a time in hot glue, and trace the glue with the sequin trim. (*At times, I had to roll the trim in a circle or flip it so that the sparkly side was facing up. Take your time.)
Continue the process of glueing a letter, and laying down the sequin trim until you are done a word. Once you are done a word, cut your trim and start the same process on the next word.
Don’t be worried if you have to cut the trim in between the letter to make the shape. If you over lap two pieces of trim it will look continuous! (For example, when I did the t’s, I only did the vertical part with the continuous trim. I cut short pieces of separate trim to make the horizontal part).
Once you are done, simply shake off any excess sequins.
If using a disappearing ink pen, the purple will go away in 24 hours. Once it’s gone, enjoy wearing your new gorgeous hat!
